Causes of Depression

There are several factors that contribute to the onset of depression.  A few of the more common causes of depression include the following:

- An inherited genetic predisposition

- A chemical or hormonal imbalance

- Grief or loss

- Feelings of failure or rejection

- Family problems

- Feeling without control over life 

- Isolation or loneliness

- Feelings of uselessness, hopelessness, or emptiness

- Negative thinking

- Substance abuse

- Side effects of prescription medications
